US Congress weighs Weitzman museum joining Smithsonian network
Original: US Congress weighing Weitzman museum integration into Smithsonian network
US Congress is considering whether the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia should be integrated into the Smithsonian Institution's network of museums. The move would fold the privately operated Jewish history museum into the federally supported Smithsonian system, potentially securing its long-term funding and elevating its national profile. Details of the proposed legislation and its chances of passage remain limited.
Why now: Lawmakers are actively debating the proposal, raising questions about federal support for a major Jewish heritage institution.
