Original: # WW3 # Russia # Ukraine # invasion - Germany Puts Ukrainian Ex-Officer on Trial Over Nord Stream Attack - James MacKENZ
Germany has begun the trial of a former Ukrainian military officer accused of involvement in the 2022 sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea. The case is a major test for German prosecutors, who have struggled to establish who ordered the attack, and it lands amid continuing tension between Berlin and Kyiv over accountability for the blasts.
Why now: The trial is the first major court case over the Nord Stream explosions, touching on wartime alliances between Germany and Ukraine.
