Irish gardener's pear tree rebounds with bigger harvest
Original: Well, in 2025 my little protégé (John Wesley/?Clairgeau de Nantes) only yielded 5 or 6 pears, but this year it got to 20
A gardener in Ireland reports that a young pear tree, thought to be a John Wesley or Clairgeau de Nantes variety, produced only 5 or 6 pears in 2025 but yielded 20 this year. The fruit is described as large, mostly 200-300g with the biggest at 390g. The grower notes the modest total would be laughed at by gardeners in more pear-friendly climates.
Why now: Home gardeners enjoy comparing harvest results and hearing how a young fruit tree has improved after a poor year.
