Ice Age Footprints Reveal Abrupt Climate Shifts Faced by Early Humans
Original: Footprints in the (white) sand: Humans experienced abrupt environmental shifts during the last ice age
Researchers at the University of Arizona report that humans living during the last ice age endured abrupt environmental shifts, based on evidence preserved in footprints found in white sand deposits. The study suggests early human populations had to adapt quickly to rapidly changing conditions, offering new insight into how ancient communities survived climate instability.
Why now: New University of Arizona research linking ancient human footprints to abrupt ice age climate changes is drawing attention amid current concerns about climate instability.
