Volunteers deployed to protect Native voting rights on Election Day
Original: 'More barriers than most': Group deploys volunteers to protect Native voting rights on Election Day
A group is deploying volunteers on Election Day to help Native American voters overcome barriers to casting ballots, including long travel distances to polling places, restrictive ID rules and limited polling access on reservations. Organizers say Native voters face more obstacles than most Americans, and the effort aims to ensure their votes are counted in a close election.
Why now: Native communities historically face disproportionate voting barriers, and heightened attention to election integrity and turnout makes this effort timely.
