Diphtheria searches surge in Spain
Original: difteria
Diphtheria, a rare and serious bacterial infection preventable by vaccination, is a top trending search term in Spain. The disease, which primarily affects the throat and nose and can be fatal if untreated, is uncommon in countries with high immunisation coverage, so any renewed attention typically signals a suspected or confirmed case or public health warning. Details of the specific reason for the surge remain unclear, though health authorities and vaccination coverage are expected to be central to the discussion.
Why now: A sudden spike in searches usually signals news of a suspected or confirmed diphtheria case or a health alert in Spain.
