Coconut crabs linked to Amelia Earhart disappearance theory

Original: coconut crab

The coconut crab, the world's largest land crab, is back in the spotlight after researchers revisited the theory that the flesh-eating crustaceans may have scattered the remains of aviator Amelia Earhart on a Pacific island after her 1937 disappearance. The giant crabs, which can crack open coconuts with their powerful claws, are said to have dragged off bones, complicating the search for proof of Earhart's fate.

Why now: New attention on the long-running Amelia Earhart mystery has put the coconut crab back in search trends.
