California moves to block state worker strike
Original: California looks to block state worker strike, asks labor agency to halt walkout
California is asking the state labor agency to halt a planned walkout by state workers, a step toward blocking the strike through official channels. The move sets up a confrontation between the administration and public-sector employees over working conditions and the right to strike, and has drawn attention as labor disputes with state governments intensify.
Why now: A state government taking formal steps to stop its own workers from striking is an unusual and contentious labor action.
