Comedian Eiji Kogyo, who reached the M-1 Grand Prix finals for the first time last year and finished sixth, has spoken out about his views as a judge of comedy awards. He suggested that recent entries in the contests rely less on actual comic material, saying that comedy should be, in its essence, something other than what he is seeing in the current trend.
Why now: His comments as an M-1 judge challenge the current style of entries in Japan's biggest comedy contest, sparking debate among comedy fans.
