Greenland disputes Trump claim on drilling
Original: Greenland disputes Trump drilling claim
Greenland has pushed back against Donald Trump's assertion that drilling could proceed on the Arctic island. Greenlandic officials rejected the characterization, reiterating that decisions over the island's natural resources rest with its own government and people, amid ongoing tensions sparked by Trump's continued interest in acquiring or controlling Greenland. The dispute adds to friction between Washington, Nuuk, and Copenhagen.
Why now: Trump's repeated claims about Greenland and its resources keep drawing public rebuttals from Greenlandic leaders.
