Eric S. Raymond: end of software secrecy is near
Original: Quote of the day by software pioneer Eric S. Raymond: 'The end of software secrecy is almost upon us' — declaring victory for the open source movement
Software pioneer Eric S. Raymond, author of 'The Cathedral and the Bazaar' and a founding figure of the open source movement, declared that 'the end of software secrecy is almost upon us', framing it as victory for open source. His remarks highlight growing belief that openness is now the industry's default rather than an alternative model.
Why now: Ongoing debate about AI models, code transparency and proprietary software is driving renewed attention to open source ideology.
