James Talarico, a Texas Democratic politician and seminary student, is being painted by the GOP as a leftist radical. Critics of that framing argue he holds moderate positions and that, in a more liberal-averse state like New Jersey, his politics could even place him on the Republican side. The dispute is feeding wider debate over how Texas Democrats are characterised nationally.

• You have to love how the GOP keeps trying to paint James Talarico as some leftist radical. He’s literally a choirboy in seminary with a super moderate approach to life in Texas. Give us all a fucking break. If he was in New Jersey, he’d be a Republican. # USPol · dtm@mastodon.cc · 6
