Japanese Agriculture Minister Taku Yanagida has submitted his resignation, saying he cannot cause further trouble, after previously denying any wrongdoing over pressure related to spending cuts and rejecting calls to step down. Reports note he faced only about two minutes of questioning in the diet before resigning, drawing criticism of how the matter was handled.
Why now: The minister's abrupt resignation after days of denials, combined with the unusually brief questioning, is drawing attention and criticism.
