DOJ Seized Rep. Omar's Phone in Immigration Investigation
Original: DOJ seized Rep. Omar's phone, subpoenaed family members in immigration status investigation
The Justice Department seized Representative Ilma Omar's phone and subpoenaed members of her family as part of an investigation into immigration status matters, NBC News reports. The disclosure has drawn sharp attention given the Minnesota Democrat's profile as a prominent critic of the Trump administration and a frequent target of immigration-related political attacks, with the report rapidly spreading across social media.
Why now: The revelation that federal investigators targeted a sitting congresswoman and her family is an extraordinary escalation with heavy political overtones.
