Original: Beijing warns Taiwan to "bear the consequences" after its coast guard used a water cannon against a Chinese fishing boat

China has warned Taiwan to "bear the consequences" after Taiwan's coast guard used a water cannon against a Chinese fishing boat near Pratas Island. Taipei says the vessel ignored repeated warnings to leave restricted waters around the Taiwan-administered islands. The confrontation comes amid already heightened tensions between Beijing and Taipei, with China pressing claims over territories Taiwan controls.

Why now: Cross-strait tensions are high and any confrontation between Chinese and Taiwanese forces risks escalation.
