An Italian minister has said there are no car plants in Italy available for Chinese companies to purchase. The statement comes amid ongoing speculation about potential Chinese investment in the European automotive sector, where Chinese automakers have sought manufacturing footholds partly to avoid EU tariffs on vehicles made in China. The comments signal Rome's position on foreign ownership of its car industry.
Why now: Chinese automakers are actively seeking European production sites amid EU tariffs, making Italy's stance newsworthy.
