Scientists Teach Birds to Sing Lost Songs Again
Original: Scientists Are Teaching Birds to Sing Lost Songs Article URL: https:// e360.yale.edu/digest/teaching- birds-lost-songs C
Researchers are teaching birds songs that vanished from wild populations after individuals were separated from older tutors, reports Yale Environment 360. By exposing young birds to recordings of their species' traditional songs, conservationists hope to restore culturally lost vocal behaviours and improve breeding and survival prospects for endangered populations.
Why now: The story highlights a novel conservation technique combining biology and culture, drawing fresh attention to bird populations that have lost their traditional songs.
