Retired US generals urge Pentagon to scrap execution livestream
Original: Retired US generals call on Pentagon to cancel 'barbaric' execution livestream
A group of retired US generals has publicly urged the Pentagon to cancel plans to livestream an execution, calling the broadcast 'barbaric'. The appeal places the Defence Department under fresh scrutiny over how it carries out and publicises federal executions, and has reignited debate among veterans, legal experts and human rights advocates about the ethics of streaming a killing to the public.
Why now: The unusual intervention by senior former military figures over a government execution broadcast has drawn wide attention.
