Deer-watching crowds disrupt military camp at La Courtine

Original: camp de la courtine

In the Creuse region of central France, crowds drawn by the annual deer rut are gathering at the La Courtine military camp to watch the stags. The site, normally closed to the public, has seen so many curious visitors that authorities intervened and one person was detained. Locals are debating the tension between the spectacle of the bellowing deer and the security of the military site.

Why now: The deer rut season is drawing large crowds to a restricted military site, prompting an arrest and public discussion.
