Genocide Watch Alleges Tanzania Abducting Maasai Villagers
Original: Tanzanian Government Abducts Maasai Villagers
Genocide Watch reports that the Tanzanian government has abducted Maasai villagers, a claim that points to the ongoing conflict over land in the country's north. The Maasai have long faced evictions from ancestral territories designated for conservation and trophy hunting reserves, drawing repeated international criticism. Human rights groups are calling on Tanzania to account for the villagers' whereabouts and to halt forced removals.
Why now: Renewed allegations of forced disappearances of Maasai villagers have reignited international concern over Tanzania's land eviction policies.
