Sally Rooney Books Pulled from UK Sale Over Palestine Action Ties
Original: What is Palestine Action? Sally Rooney Books to No Longer Be Sold in U.K. Over Ties to Group
Sally Rooney's books will no longer be sold in the United Kingdom over her ties to Palestine Action, the pro-Palestinian group that the UK government proscribed as a terrorist organisation earlier this year. The Irish novelist has publicly voiced support for the group, prompting retailers and publishers to withdraw her titles. The move has reignited debate over the breadth of the terrorism ban and its impact on free expression.
Why now: The withdrawal follows intense public controversy after Rooney pledged support for the proscribed group, making the ban's consequences for a bestselling author a flashpoint.
