China picks Iraq War 'safe haven' film as Oscars entry
Original: China’s Iraq War ‘safe haven’ film of true stories to represent country at Oscars
China has selected a film based on true stories from the Iraq War, centred on a 'safe haven', to represent the country in the international category at the Oscars. The choice is drawing attention given the film's foreign war setting and its real-life origins, marking an unusual subject for China's official Academy submission.
Why now: The announcement of China's official Oscars submission is new, and the film's Iraq War subject makes it notable.
