Leipzig proposal would bring the city into the Fediverse

The city of Leipzig maintains official profiles on Facebook, Instagram, X, Bluesky and other platforms, but has no presence in the Fediverse, the decentralised network behind Mastodon. The local political group Die Freie Fraktion has now submitted a motion, drafted by one of its Pirate Party members, calling on the city administration to set up an official account there and close that gap in the city's social media strategy.

Why now: Many municipalities are rethinking their social media presence as platforms change ownership and policies, making a move to decentralised networks a current topic of debate.

• Die Stadt Leipzig pflegt eine Vielzahl von Social Media-Profilen: Facebook, Insta, X, Bluesky usw. Was fehlt? Richtig! Ein Profil im Fediverse. Wir haben daher einen von unseren Piraten verfassten Antrag eingereicht, der das ändern soll. https:// ratsinformation.leipzig.de/all… · DieFreieFraktion@leipzig.town · 6
