IFTAS has published its 2026 Social Web Annual Survey and Needs Assessment Report, available as a PDF download and to read online. The report draws on responses from more than 400 ActivityPub communities hosting roughly a third of all known ActivityPub accounts, along with input from ATProto users, offering one of the broadest pictures yet of the decentralised social web's health, needs and challenges.
Why now: The release of a major annual survey covering a large share of ActivityPub and ATProto communities draws attention from decentralised social web participants assessing infrastructure and moderation needs.
