Swarming robots to tackle space debris
The European Space Agency is highlighting plans to use swarming robots to tackle space debris orbiting Earth. The approach would see multiple coordinated robotic units working together to capture or remove defunct satellites and fragments that threaten active spacecraft. The initiative reflects growing international concern over orbital congestion and the risks debris poses to satellites and crewed missions.
Why now: Concern about the growing amount of space debris and new robotic cleanup concepts is drawing attention.
