Severe drought declared across six English counties
Original: drought
Officials have declared a severe drought in six counties across Britain after months with virtually no rainfall left reservoirs running low. The announcement puts pressure on water companies to introduce or extend restrictions such as hosepipe bans, and raises concerns for farmers facing poor harvests and dry grazing land. It comes as much of the country experiences prolonged dry, hot weather.
Why now: New drought declarations directly affect water use restrictions, farming and daily life across affected areas.
