Severe drought declared in parts of the UK
Original: JUST IN - 'Severe drought' declared in parts of UK
A severe drought has been officially declared in parts of the United Kingdom, following prolonged dry weather. The announcement means water companies in the affected regions gain additional powers to manage supplies, and households may face restrictions such as hosepipe bans. It comes as concern grows over low river levels, dry soils and pressure on farming and water resources.
Why now: Dry weather and water supply concerns are currently affecting the UK, making the official drought declaration newsworthy.
