Original: "Ministers preparing to slash heat pump subsidies to fund defence spending" # UK # UnitedKingdom # HeatPumps # Energy ht
The UK government is reportedly preparing to cut subsidies for heat pumps, diverting the money towards increased defence spending. The plan, reported by the Guardian, would scale back support for low-carbon home heating, drawing concern from environmental groups who argue it undermines the UK's climate commitments while prioritising military budgets.
Why now: Tension between defence spending priorities and climate policy in the UK is a live political debate.
