Publisher Faber has withdrawn Sally Rooney's books from sale in the UK, citing circumstances in which it cannot continue distributing her work. The move relates to the Irish author's public support for Palestine Action, the direct-action group banned under UK terrorism laws. The decision has reignited debate over free expression, the breadth of the ban, and the responsibilities of publishers toward politically outspoken writers.
Why now: The withdrawal of a bestselling author's books over her political support raises free-speech concerns amid ongoing controversy over the Palestine Action ban.
