Italy debates permanent daylight saving time as clocks change
Original: ora legale permanente
Clocks in Italy are going back one hour as standard time returns, reviving the debate over introducing permanent daylight saving time. The change means earlier darkness in the evening, and many are asking again whether Italy should stop switching clocks twice a year, an idea the government has discussed in the past without acting on it.
Why now: The end of daylight saving time has renewed public interest in whether Italy should adopt permanent summer time.
