Banned Book Speakeasy Returns to Old Town Alexandria
Original: Banned Book Speakeasy Returns to Old Town Alexandria with Cocktails, Piano and ‘The Restricted Collection’
A banned book speakeasy is returning to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, pairing cocktails and live piano with 'The Restricted Collection', a curated selection of frequently challenged and banned books. The event draws on growing national debate over book bans in schools and libraries, inviting guests to engage with restricted titles in a clandestine bar setting. Organisers say the format celebrates reading and free expression while offering a night out with literary themes.
Why now: Ongoing national controversy over book bans has made events celebrating restricted titles timely and talked about.
