The Guardian reports that allies of US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, connected to his church, supported a proposal to carry out the execution of the Fort Hood shooter as a public event, reportedly including a livestream. The story is drawing attention because of the mix of religion, politics and military justice surrounding a senior Trump administration figure.
Why now: New reporting ties a sitting defence secretary's religious network to a controversial call for a public execution.
