The Guardian reports that allies of Pete Hegseth within the CREC church supported a proposal for the public execution of the Fort Hood shooter. The church's leader said he 'prefers public executions to private', and pastors connected to the denomination have previously advocated for the death penalty. The report is drawing attention to the church's hardline positions on capital punishment.
Why now: Fresh reporting ties figures close to a senior US defence official to an extreme position on public executions.
