Activist invokes 'untouchable' slur to call out treatment of homeless
Original: ...you wont shake our hands because they are dirty, but did you forget yours can be washed? the dirt we have no place to
An activist account posting in support of Palestinians draws a parallel between being refused a handshake and the stigma faced by homeless people, writing: 'you won't shake our hands because they are dirty, but did you forget yours can be washed?' The post argues that poverty and houselessness are not criminal acts and that dehumanising attitudes, not dirty hands, are the real moral failing. It frames cruelty toward the marginalised as making the perpetrators 'untouchable'.
Why now: The pointed rhetoric linking caste-style 'untouchability' to homelessness and the treatment of Palestinians is striking and confrontational, prompting reaction.
