Original: Student organizations commemorate Oct. 7 with SJP Gaza vigil, UW Hillel meal-sharing event
Student organizations at the University of Wisconsin-Madison marked the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led attack and the ensuing war in Gaza with separate commemorations. Students for Justice in Palestine held a vigil for Gaza, while UW Hillel organized a meal-sharing event for Jewish students. The parallel gatherings reflect how campuses remain sharply divided over the conflict's anniversary.
Why now: The second anniversary of October 7 has prompted commemorative events on campuses, drawing attention to ongoing divisions over Gaza.
