Fan hopes Dodgers title forces MLB to curb spending
Original: My son wants the Dodgers to win the World Series because he believes that another Dodgers championship will force MLB to
A baseball fan says his son is rooting for the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the World Series for an unusual reason: he believes another championship bought with a huge payroll would embarrass Major League Baseball into finally acting against big-market teams outspending everyone else. The remark taps into ongoing frustration among fans about competitive balance and the league's lack of a salary cap.
Why now: The Dodgers' heavy spending and World Series run have reignited debate over competitive balance in MLB.
