ProPublica's new 'Paper Trail' episode reports that a defense contractor CEO told the FBI he had bribed politicians, naming Senator Susan Collins as his most important patron. The reporting also says the Trump administration shut down an elite FBI anti-corruption unit afterward, prompting ProPublica to conduct its own investigation into the bribery allegations.
Why now: The story combines explosive bribery allegations against a sitting senator with claims that the FBI's corruption investigation was shut down under Trump.
