Florida churches use backpack drives to boost immigration advocacy
Original: Florida churches turn backpack drives into a gateway to immigration advocacy
Churches across Florida are converting their annual back-to-school backpack giveaway events into opportunities for immigration advocacy, according to reporting carried by Religion News Service and picked up by other religious outlets. The congregations pair school supplies for children with information and support for immigrant families. The story is circulating widely among faith-based and immigration-focused readers.
Why now: Immigration remains a highly charged topic in Florida, and the unusual pairing of school charity with political advocacy is drawing attention.
