Oil pollution drifting into marine protected areas, report finds
Original: "Oil pollution is drifting into marine protected areas, report finds" # Oil # Environment # Oceans https:// news.mongaba
A new report covered by Mongabay finds that oil pollution is drifting into marine protected areas, threatening ecosystems that were designated specifically for conservation. The findings highlight a gap between legal protection on paper and actual conditions at sea, since pollution from shipping and spills travels well beyond protected boundaries. Conservationists say the results raise questions about how protected areas are designed and enforced.
Why now: The report is new and raises fresh concern about whether marine protected areas actually shield wildlife from industrial pollution.
