MapQuest Now Shows Locations of Surveillance Cameras
Original: MapQuest maps surveillance cameras
MapQuest has added surveillance camera locations to its mapping service, letting users see where cameras are positioned as they plan routes. The feature has drawn attention for raising familiar questions about privacy and public monitoring, with some welcoming the transparency and others uneasy that a consumer mapping tool is cataloguing surveillance infrastructure in everyday navigation.
Why now: The novelty of a mainstream mapping app publicly charting surveillance cameras has sparked debate about privacy and transparency.
