Newsom highlights mental health support for returning USS Abraham Lincoln sailors
Original: Governor Newsom highlights mental health support for USS Abraham Lincoln sailors returning to San Diego after 321-day deployment
Governor Gavin Newsom is drawing attention to the mental health support being offered to sailors from the USS Abraham Lincoln as they return to San Diego following a 321-day deployment. The carrier's crew spent nearly a year at sea, one of the longest stretches reported recently, and state officials are emphasising counselling and reintegration services for service members and their families.
Why now: The unusually long deployment has focused attention on the psychological toll on sailors and their families.
