South Sudan Conflict Leaves Yei Catholics Waiting Years for Sacraments

Original: SOUTH SUDAN: Conflict Leaves Yei Catholics Waiting Years for Sacraments, Bishop Says

The Catholic Bishop of Yei in South Sudan says years of armed conflict have left local Catholics unable to receive the sacraments, as insecurity and displacement have disrupted church life in the region. The diocese has struggled to maintain regular pastoral care, with priests unable to reach many communities and faithful waiting extended periods for Mass, communion and other rites.

Why now: Renewed attention to the ongoing conflict and humanitarian situation in South Sudan has put local reports of the church's struggles back in focus.
