According to The Guardian, French police used VEZI 4x4 vehicles purchased with British public money to charge at protest demonstrations. The vehicles were funded by the UK to help stop migrants crossing the Channel, not for crowd control. The report is drawing criticism over the misuse of funds earmarked for border security.
Why now: Fresh reporting alleges public funds intended for Channel migration control were diverted to police crowd-control operations.
