Hanwha laser system completes live drone interception test
South Korea's Hanwha has successfully completed a live-fire test in which its laser air-defence system intercepted drones. The demonstration marks a step forward for directed-energy weapons, an area where militaries are racing to field low-cost counters to cheap drones. Defence observers see it as evidence that laser interception is moving from experiment toward operational deployment.
Why now: Growing global urgency over drone threats is putting new attention on successful directed-energy interception demonstrations.
