F-22 Pilot Directs Collaborative Combat Aircraft Mid-Flight

Original: f

A US Air Force F-22 pilot has flown while acting as an 'airborne quarterback', directing a Collaborative Combat Aircraft drone in flight, Air & Space Forces Magazine reports. The test shows how crewed fighters could command autonomous wingmen in future operations, a central concept of the Pentagon's next-generation air power plans.

Why now: The demonstration marks tangible progress in the US military's effort to pair crewed fighters with autonomous drones.
