Puddletown Theatre Collective Pushes for Fair Pay for Artists
Original: Puddletown Theatre Collective strives to create shows that pay artists more than a pittance
Puddletown Theatre Collective, a Portland-area theatre company, is drawing attention for its efforts to pay the artists in its productions better than the minimal stipends typical of the region's theatre scene. The group says it wants its shows to compensate performers and crew with more than what it calls a pittance, taking aim at longstanding low-pay norms in small theatre.
Why now: Arts outlets are highlighting its pay practices as part of wider debate over fair wages for theatre artists.
