SA startup builds gadgets 'worthless' to steal
Original: SA startup builds gadgets that would be ‘worthless’ to steal
A South African startup is building devices designed to be worthless if stolen, a security-by-design approach aimed at deterring theft. Details beyond the headline remain limited, but the concept points to hardware that is locked or bricked so it has no resale value to thieves. The idea is drawing attention for how it reframes anti-theft protection.
Why now: The startup's anti-theft approach to gadget design is a novel angle on South Africa's well-known theft and crime problems.
