A stereo spectrogram of Antarctic blue whale vocalisations, recorded in the southwestern Indian Ocean, is being shared online, with the calls sped up four times to make them audible and visible. Each call in the series starts at the same frequency. Credit for the work goes to David Stalling via Sounds of the Earth, a project documenting natural sounds.

Why now: People are drawn to the striking visualisation of an endangered species' rarely heard vocalisations.
