Original: mika häkkinen

Mika Hakkinen, the two-time Formula 1 world champion, says the sport has 'exploded' in the United States and will keep growing following the US Grand Prix. The Finn, who won the drivers' title in 1999 and 2000, argues America has become a key market for F1 and that interest there is set to increase further as the series expands its presence in the country.

Why now: Hakkinen's comments on F1's booming US popularity, published around the United States Grand Prix, are drawing attention from motorsport fans.
