Abdul El-Sayed pushes back on Muslim Brotherhood question
Original: Abdul El-Sayed challenges assumptions behind Muslim Brotherhood question | CNN Politics
Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic candidate in Michigan, is drawing attention after questioning the assumptions behind being asked about the Muslim Brotherhood. Rather than offering a yes-or-no answer, he challenged the framing of the question itself, prompting discussion about how Muslim American politicians are questioned on their faith and loyalties. Supporters view his response as a fair stand against loaded questioning, while critics continue to press him on foreign policy positions.
Why now: His public pushback on a politically sensitive question has sparked debate about bias toward Muslim candidates in American politics.
